Plato advocates that we be kind because we don’t know the battles that others are fighting. But he goes on to call these battles “harder.” Why?
We can’t know the difficulties that others are navigating. It’s best to think of their difficulties as harder simply because it moves us to empathy, slowing down our judgement to open ourselves up curiosity and non-judgmental help. And the world gets better when we do.
